Catherine Coulter, Blowout is a hair-raising read.
Dillon Savich and his wife Lacey Sherlock are both FBI agents. They, along with their son are on a well deserved weekend getaway at a secluded cabin in the Pennsylvania woods.
Inside the Cover
While Savich is driving back to the cabin, his tire blows. After fixing his tire, he gets ready to drive off again when out of the blue, a young woman comes running towards him, screaming that a man in her house is trying to kill her. Just minutes before, he spoke to his wife on his cell, but when he tries calling for back-up, there is no service. He decides to go on his own to the large estate home. There is no sight of the killer or the young woman. In fact, once he leaves the house and re-enters it with Sheriff Doozer Hams, the house looks abandoned and vacant and the young woman, Samantha Barrister, who seemed alive to Savich, was murdered thirty years earlier.
In Washington D.C., Supreme Court Justice Stewart Califano is garroted in the library, where there is heavy round-the-clock security. Califano used to go to the library when he needed a peaceful place think about cases. On this particular night, he was deciding on a death penalty case of a sixteen year old that was charged with a brutal crime.
Savich and Sherlock are called out of their reverie to head the investigation into Justice Califano’s murder. They team up with a local detective Ben Raven.
Callie Markham is a journalist and is Justice Califano’s stepdaughter. She immerses herself into the investigation much to Raven’s chagrin, and is intent on finding her step father’s killer. Raven wants to keep Callie safe, but Callie is too stubborn to accept his good intentions. This creates tension; sexual and emotional.
The investigation starts with Stewart Califano’s wife and Callie’s mother, Margaret Califano. She has no idea who would kill her husband and tries to be helpful with the investigation, but her husband’s death takes a toll. Since Callie cannot be with her mother, she is happy when Margaret’s friends come to her rescue. With her mother taken care of, Callie, along with Raven, Savich and Sherlock, go find a killer. They are not aware that there is a sinister energy that circles this tight group of women who have banned together to get Mrs. Califano through her horrible ordeal.
While Savich, Sherlock, Raven and Markham try to find the killer, two of Stewart’s brilliant clerks are murdered in the same brutal way as Califano. These murders add layers to an investigation which has many questions and few leads. Whilst the FBI agents, detective Raven and Callie Markham peel back the layers, they soon discover secret love affairs, blackmail, and an assassin who is intent on staying free.
During the investigation into Califano’s death, Savich has these dreams in which Samantha Barrister is trying to tell him something. He is determined to find out what message she is revealing in the afterlife. He knows that the message may be the key to finding her killer and finally put her soul to rest.
The ending to Califano’ s fate will shock you. The motive will shock you even more and you will be left dumbfounded.
The ending to Barrister’s life and who is finally caught for killing her thirty years earlier will surprise and baffle you.
